Pre-Election Karaoke

By Mina Xavier, November 1, 2008 11:14 pm

We will be at the local pub Monday night to request and perform the following re-writes as karaoke:

“Hey Sarah Palin” by Venga Productions, a rewrite of “Hey There Delilah” by The Plain White Ts:

“Hey Sarah, Hey Sarah” by Punch59 Sketch Comedy, Jen Ryan & Rik Sansone, a take on the Livingston/Evans classic “Que Sera, Sera”:

“He Picked A Girl (As His VP)” by BamBamKaboosh, a remake of that tacky Katy Perry song:

Bonus Round:
If we can pull it off, we will be secretly filmed and then posted on YouTube.

UPDATE:
I am always comfortable enough to prank a room full of people, but never at the expense of a hostess or coordinator. That is just plain rude. In good spirit I asked the dj’s permission up-front since it is ultimately his pay that could be affected.

He was skittish about the notion and preferred that we did not do it. But he offered his support for the cause and thought it was a hilarious idea. And that is okay.

The Bureau of Morality

By Mina Xavier, October 30, 2008 10:16 pm

What do Trent Reznor’s cryptic antics from 2007 have to do with the latter weeks of 2008?

He had no flippin’ clue how relevant he’d be this week.

Not unlike the secret New Jersey number on the inside of Franz Ferdinand’s last jewel case, Nine Inch Nails made a perfect accompaniment to 2007’s Year Zero by adding this fake PMRC-style government seal and toll free number:

The warning label read:
Consuming or spreading this material may be considered subversive by the United States Bureau of Morality. If you or someone you know has engaged in subversive acts or thoughts, call 1-866-445-6580.
BE A PATRIOT- BE AN INFORMER!

The most amusing aspect of this whole prank was that several of us had figured out that during the playing of the automated message, we can press * and enter 445-6580-*, we are redirected to a voice mail greeting where we can leave messages and Blair Witch style prank calls.

NIN’s handlers started taking some of the best recordings and posting them on Youtube along with a few creepy teasers, to the morbid delight of many a hardcore fan.

PS: It’s all in jest, folks. It’s art for shock’s sake. Or maybe it’s shock for art’s sake. Take your pick.
